St George’s Day falls on April 23rd. and is also thought to be Shakespeare’s birthday, though there is an uncertainty of about 1 day in the latter, we only have the date of his Baptism, I believe. This year, the date falls in Easter Week when Derbyshire schools are on holiday and Celebrating Cromford will be celebrating with an afternoon street party on Scarthin Promenade. I’m looking for a suitable tessellation both for the Knight and for the Bard. I think I’ll employ squares for England’s patron Knight and triangles for his more rounded but rousing celebrant, who would have been 450 this year
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips, Straining upon the start. The game’s afoot: Follow your spirit, and upon this charge Cry ‘God for Harry, England, and Saint George!’Below I show a second stab at a three by three portion of his tessellation in Flag Colours, on a field of green. Chinese Lattice Labyrinth (23,4) – Americans can reflect the pattern to produce Labyrinth (4,23). I’ll have a stab at Shakespeare’s birthdaty, or at his age in triangles in a day or two. Tomorrow we’re meeting to convert sheets into knightly costume.
There’s still a hint of you-know-what about that one; I’ll see if I can do better.
